Highlights: This wilderness walk takes you on an exclusive guided hike, at a gentle pace, through the Puhi Nature Reserve that is renowned as a haven for a diverse array of rare and endangered New Zealand native species of flora and fauna.

Be treated to a truly authentic and diverse wilderness encounter, combined with delicious meals and luxurious accommodation in an outstanding alpine environment.

A special feature of this guided hike is that a member of a group unable to walk any or all the distance can be transported by tracked 4WD vehicle to the lodge.

Day 1: Hike through kanuka/manuka, beech, and fern forest to Totara Saddle for lunch. Make a short descent to the stream below, then a gentle climb to reach alpine meadows covered in mountain daisies. Traverse these alpine meadows, then make a short climb to another saddle before your descent, with spectacular views, to Shearwater Lodge. 6 hours hiking

Day 2: Start the day with a guided hike up Surveyor's Peak, to an altitude of 1530m (approx 5000'), where you will be rewarded with outstanding views of Banks Peninsula and the North Island. Back to the lodge for lunch. The afternoon allows time to explore at leisure the surrounding wilderness terrain, flora and fauna. 4 hours hiking

Day 3: Leisurely start to the day and time to savour the spectacular alpine environment and do some short walks. In the afternoon walk the final section of the track, walking out on a different path to that taken on the way in. 2 hours hiking
